Winterpalais Wonders

In the former city winter residence of Prince Eugene of Savoy, a legacy of the high baroque era, the observer will come upon a lot of splendour. Presently these pompous rooms are entering into a singular symbiosis with the artworks of the exceedingly unusual exhibition. It is carrying the equivocal name Baroque Baroque. Its creator is the Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson. His works capture the contemporary Zeitgeist and challenge the visitor's understanding of perception; through movements, shadows, projections, reflections and kaleidoscopic inversions he is requested to come out of his passive role and to face up intellectually to reality and illusion. The encounter and the synergy of these profoundly different ages is fascinating. We are thrilled and conclude with one word: Chapeau!

The exhibition will be in the Winterpalais of the Belvedere in the Himmelpfortengasse 8 until march the 6th of the new year.

Through the Window

The picture in the picture. A scene, a window, an intimate moment. The photographs of Barrera allow us to immerse into the shown events. We are situated on the outside, are present, are captivated, catch a glimpse, do not want to be discovered, yet take all the time we need to observe the private life of those people, who are perfect strangers to us.

'This Elijah Wood look-a-like is all hunk, no hobbit. He probably weekends in the Berkshires with his golden retriever, hiking and chopping wood with those big hands. He could trek to Middle Earth and I'd still follow. #illtakethatring'

'Check out this Brooklyn-bound-boss' material. Maybe he's an aspiring actor/writer/producer/director/nudist looking for tips. Doesn't matter I love a man getting in touch with his feminine side. When will he get in touch with mine? Just kidding. #notthatkindofgirl'

'Ahoy handsome! Just caught a glimpse of his elusive beauty reading Moby Dick in the crowded waters of the L train. There may be other fish in the sea, but this white whale has me hooked. #reelmein'

'Dapper Dude Alert! Damn. Whatever prose he's reading cannot match the beauty of that full beard. He's like the hot English Professor of my dreams, only with way better hair. #voluntarydetention'

'Tall, dark and handsome with a thick beard AND a thick...book? This man must be straight out of the fiction section because he's too good to be true. If only he was patiently waiting for me instead of the E train. #YouKnowWhatTheySayAboutThickBooks'

'Sigh. This Clark Kent look-alike seems to just flown in from Krypton to spend some QT on the F train with us mere mortals. I may have to pretend to faint so he'll catch me but i'm going to let him finish the last few pages of 100 Years of Solitude first. #superman'

'Spotted this scruffy prince on his morning commute. Probably to sculpture class. I'm sure he's reading a collection of post-war Russian short stories, but really thinking of how he made love to his French girlfriend this morning and the gluten free toast they shared after. #marryme'

Hot Dudes Reading

Hotdudesreading seems to be the new sensation among the countless number of Instagram Accounts. Something we just had to share! The idea behind these pictures is simple: Handsome men are secretly photographed while reading on the subway and the result is captured with a witty caption. A recipe for success. How could anybody not love this!

With his idea of the fictitious museums, a target-oriented critic on the obsolete picture of museums, Marcel Broodthaers initially gained attention. Before long he was regarded as one of the initiators and most important representatives of the more wide-ranging general institutional critic. In many following exhibitions he recurrently started to dispute with the meaning of museums as opinion-forming institutions, aware that they are always subject to their financial influences. His well-known announcement from this series, "Musée d'art moderne à vendre pour cause de faillite", is now eponymous to the current exhibition at the Mumok in Vienna.
The scope of the exhibition is, however, going farther than the works of Marcel Broodthaers. The belgian couple Annick and Anton Herbert, from whose private collection the presented pieces originate from, started in the 1960s with a lot of know-how to establish one of the most influential and well-known private collections. The works reach from minimal art and conceptual art to more modern pieces of a more posterior generation of artists. To name just a selection of the artists exhibited: Gerhard Richter, Lawrence Weiner, Sol LeWitt, Art & Language, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Franz West, Bruce Nauman, Paul McCarthy und Martin Kippenberger. In our opinion it's definitely worth seeing!

The exhibition will be at the Mumok in Vienna until the 18th of May 2014.
